El Greco (Domenikos Theotokopoulos, 1541–1614) was a Greek-born painter who settled in Toledo, Spain, and became one of the most distinctive artists of the late Renaissance. His elongated figures and charged, spiritual intensity set his work apart from his contemporaries.
